Another Bad Day For Christchurch Earthquakes

And, sure enough, like I thought they might, the quakes are breaking north.

The NZ Herald:
Christchurch was shaken by yet more big earthquakes this morning.

The largest was a magnitude 5.5 at 5.45am which was centred 20km north-east of Lyttelton at a depth of 15km.

...There was also a magnitude 5.1 quake at 1.27am, centred 20km north-east of Lyttelton at a depth of 20km.

...Christchurch mayor Bob Parker told Radio New Zealand that Cantabrians should prepare for further quakes throughout the day.

"When you have an event on the scale of a 5.5 it's inevitable that you'll get more aftershocks, we've had a few of those already and potentially they'll continue throughout the day. Just prepare yourselves for one of those shaky Canterbury days I think."

He said there were no reports of liquefaction or new damage.
