Crushed Cans And Chaotic Commute

Uh, oh! Rainy morning means the potential for accidents: realized here, at 21st and I Streets! The driver of the white pickup truck turning the corner plowed into a shopping cart pushed by a woman pedestrian, and filled with bottles and cans intended for recycling. It wasn't 100% clear at this point whether the pedestrian was hurt: probably not, although she was upset, and gesturing aloft for some reason.

Here, a Good Samaritan is trying to pickup the cans and and bottles that have fallen from the toppled cart, and set the cart aright. Cars pass by the scene.

The cops arrive as cleanup continues.

The cop talks to the driver (background), as the woman pedestrian resists the entreaties of the just-arrived firemen to do a blood pressure measurement (foreground). One of the witnesses observes (right).

The hapless driver of the pickup truck, looking hapless.

Because of the large number of turning cars at this intersection, it isn't very friendly to pedestrians. Who might have the right-of-way is sometimes unclear. I've come close on a couple of occasions to plowing into pedestrians myself, but at least for now, have evaded the fate of this hapless driver.
